Career Development
The O.W. Best Counselors will begin Career Development activities with students this month.  In 6th grade students are introduced to Career Cruising, which is a web based program that they use into their high school years.  Students will specifically learn which careers relate to their favorite school subject.  7th grade students will meet with the counselors twice and create their Educational Development Plan (EDP).  An EDP is like a personal file cabinet which students can store all information about their education and career path throughout middle and high school.  Students in 7th grade too will be introduced to the Career Pathways and investigate careers of interest through a Career Matchmaker Quiz.  In 8th grade students again meet with the counselors twice to update their EDP and look further into their Matchmaker quiz from 7th grade.  They will begin to develop educational and career goals, select schools and careers of interest, and will ultimately select 2 Career Pathways for high school.  If parents are interested in looking at the website, we encourage you to go to www.careercruising.com.  The username is best and the password is royals.  Students in 7th and 8th grades are provided with additional login information as they develop their EDPs.

October is Bullying Awareness Month.
O.W. Best students will each receive a copy of the Detroit Tigers "Go to Bat for Respect" newspaper which promotes anti-bullying in their MP2 class.  Students too will hear daily announcements with bullying related messages. We are asking that all students wear something pink on Tuesday, October 21st to support Bullying Awareness.  We have posters in the hallway which remind students to report bullying.  They can report bullying by using the bully box, sending an email tobully@dhsd7.net, or telling a trusted adult.
