Dearborn Heights School District No. 7

School Safety Update. from Superintendent Mast
Parent Advisory Committee Meeting

Calling all parents of students receiving special education services there will be a meeting, Wednesday, March 14 at Pardee Elementary, at 6:00 pm. Please RSVP with your students resource teacher.

Friday, February 23rd between 8:30 am and 8:40 am a parent was dropping his children off at Thorne Elementary School in the Westwood School District when he observed a white male approximately 25 years old, approximately 5'9", weighing around 150 pounds with brown hair and a mustache.  He was wearing a black sweatsuit and was standing next to his vehicle, exposing himself to students as they arrived at school.  The police were contacted immediately, but the man had fled the scene before police arrived.  The vehicle that the man was standing in front of was described as a 2004-2005 red Honda 4-door with a dented front passenger's side door.

Please be alert around our schools and in our neighborhood.  Thorne is just across Telegraph from District 7.  If you see anything that you think is relevant to this report, please contact:

Sgt. Hutchens at 313-277-7708 or by email at

This would be a good time to remind your students about stranger danger.  Remind students to be aware of their surroundings at all times.  Remind students to report anything suspicious that they see or hear in the community.

Elementary Buildings Reconfiguration Update
This letter will be mailed to all Schools of Choice families with elementary students this week.  This will be the form that Schools of Choice parents will use to request the building that they would like their children to attend for the 2018/2019 school year with the new K-5 buildings.  As it says in the letter, not all requests will be able to be honored, but we will do our best.  I expect that these letters will hit the mailboxes by Tuesday, February 6th .  If you are a Schools of Choice family with elementary students and you do not receive the letter by Tuesday, please contact your current school office to obtain a copy.  As always, I am available to answer questions in my office at 313-203-3180 or by email at

Thank you,
