Dearborn Heights District 7 Schools Millage Proposal

Strengthening Our Schools, Supporting Our Future

About the Millage Proposal

This November, the residents of Dearborn Heights District 7 have the opportunity to vote on a millage proposal that is vital to the future of our schools. This millage will help maintain critical funding for our students, staff, and facilities, ensuring that we can continue offering high-quality education and services to our community.

What is the Millage Proposal?

The millage proposal is focused on supporting essential school services, facilities, and programs. This funding is crucial to providing our students with the resources they need, such as updated technology, enhanced safety measures, and well-maintained facilities.
This proposal is not a new tax. It continues funding already in place to support our schools and ensures we can meet the needs of our students without raising taxes.

Where Does the Funding Go?

  • Educational Programs: Ensuring that students have access to modern technology, up-to-date materials, and innovative learning environments.
  • School Safety: Enhancing security measures and maintaining safe, secure learning spaces for all students.
  • Facilities Maintenance: Regular updates and improvements to buildings, ensuring a comfortable and healthy environment for learning.
  • Student Services: Supporting after-school programs, extracurricular activities, and additional services that contribute to student success.

What Happens if the Proposal Does Not Pass?

Without this continued funding, the district may face difficult decisions. The quality of education could be impacted, and the district may not be able to provide the same level of resources and support to our students and staff.

OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL, PROPOSAL

This proposal would renew and restore the authority of the School District to continue to levy the statutory limit of 18 mills on all property, except principal residences (owner occupied homes) and other property exempt by law, for general operating purposes, which currently expires with the School District's 2024 tax levy and allow the School District to continue to levy the statutory limit of 18 mills in the event of future Headlee rollbacks of up to 2 mills. This authorization will allow the School District to continue to receive revenues at the full per pupil foundation

allowance permitted by the State. Shall the limitation on the total amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residences and other property exempted by law, situated within the Dearborn Heights School District No. 7, County of Wayne, Michigan, be increased in the amount of 20 mills with 18 mills being the maximum allowable annual levy ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a period often (10) ycars, 2025 to 2034, inclusive? This operating millage, if approved and levied, would provide estimated revenues to the School District of S1,500,000.00 during the 2025 calendar year, to be used for general operating purposes.
